Guided by the clear slogan, “Find the Major That Fits You!”, the expo helped students explore their future academic paths. The event was created to help not only freshmen choosing majors, but also students considering double or minor majors. In particular, the expo was highly important for freshmen in the Division of Undeclared Majors, which was introduced last year. These freshmen need to choose their majors by the end of their first semester. Because of this, the expo helped them learn more about different majors and plan their futures. Customized Major Exploration a freshman getting advice about majors at a department booth The expo offered various programs for students with different interests, perfectly reflecting the slogan. At the booths representing each department and major, students received e-books containing core academic information, which helped them better understand different majors and courses. Students could also ask questions and receive advice from senior students. A particularly impressive feature of this year’s expo was the "Integrated Major Promotion Zone." Moving beyond a simple display of text - based information, this zone featured major introduction videos directly produced by the students themselves, Many students responded positively to this program. Career and Campus Support In addition to academic major selection, the event also offered various programs to help students prepare for their future careers. At the booths connected with the University Job Plus Center, a steady stream of students received career counseling, sharing their employment concerns through services such as "eDISC personality assessments followed by consultations" and "guidance on field training work - experience programs." This year’s expo received positive responses from students, thanks to its parallel online and offline operations, alongside rich benefits such as extracurricular mileage points and souvenirs provided when visiting three or more booths. Organized by the university student council, the "2026-1 SMCL (SangMyung Champions League)" officially kicked off its spring season on March 30. This year's tournament brings together eight distinct teams—Canon, Saboom, Triple S, NS, HIEMU, IEMU, Yeok-Con FC, and FC Core—all vying for the campus championship. As the opening matches underway, the league is already drawing significant attention from the student body, setting the stage for a memorable season of campus sports. Fierce Competition: Group Stage Results and Standings he tournament began with an intense group stage, dividing the eight teams into two leagues to compete for a spot in the tournament bracket. In the 'Sang League,' Canon dominated the field, securing the top spot with 9 points, an impressive goal difference of 10, and a total of 13 goals. HIEMU followed in second place with 6 points to advance, while FC Core (3 points) and Saboom (0 points) were eliminated. Meanwhile, the 'Myeong League' saw a similarly fierce battle. IEMU claimed the top position with 9 points and an 8-goal difference, while NS secured its semifinal berth in second place with 6 points and a tournament-high 13 goals. The university’s overseas volunteer team will carry out its summer volunteer program in Ulaanbaatar from June 23 to July 4. Students from both the Seoul and Cheonan campuses will participate together, offering educational, health, and cultural exchange programs for local elementary school students. This program goes beyond simple volunteer work. It is designed as an integrated international service project in which students communicate with the local community through lessons and hands-on activities that they have planned themselves. The volunteers are preparing a wide range of programs, including Korean language lessons, hygiene and health education, traditional games, and cultural activities. Through these efforts, they hope to provide local children with valuable learning experiences and meaningful cultural exchange opportunities. They are also working on budget planning and operational reviews to ensure a well-structured volunteer program tailored to local conditions. A volunteer student said, “I am a bit worried about whether I will be able to effectively teach children in Mongolia, where we do not share the same language. This marks the Center’s 12th selection since it was first chosen in 2013, setting a new record for the highest number of selections among participating universities. Through this project, the Center will continue its efforts to enhance students’ understanding of international development cooperation and foster global competencies in line with Korea’s expanding role in official development assistance (ODA). Established in 1991, KOICA serves as the Republic of Korea as the leading development cooperation agency. It collaborates with a wide range of domestic and international partners, including government ministries, public institutions, civil society organizations, businesses, and academic institutions to implement sustainable development initiatives. The agency provides bilateral and multilateral ODA to developing countries, supports non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and carries out projects aimed at promoting peacebuilding and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The International Cooperation activities of example, Laos field activities From Laos field activities to micro-major operations, the center has consistently refined its practical talent development model that combines theory and practice. Since starting the project in 2013, the center has established relevant courses and implemented a gradual progression of theoretical classes, team projects to address developing country issues, guest lectures by experts, and overseas fieldwork. In particular, the program expanded its partnerships with international cooperation NGOs and external organizations in 2018. Moving beyond a curriculum-centered approach, the Center built a system that more closely connects classroom education with real-world development practice. One notable initiative involves purchasing locally made products during their visit and later organizing a campus bazaar after returning to Korea. The proceeds from this bazaar are donated to an elementary school in Laos, helping support educational resources for local students. Through this activity, students not only contribute financially to the community but also gain a deeper understanding of the social and economic conditions faced by developing regions. This award was received by President Kim Jong-hee. The Korea Best Design Award is hosted by the Korean Society of Commodity Culture Design and sponsored by the Korea Federation of Design Associations, the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, and The Korea Economic Daily, and is an award that boasts the highest authority in Korea in the fields of branding and design. The award, which has been held since 1995, strengthens national competitiveness by enhancing companies’ motivation for product development and improving the quality of design, and selects the best designs to promote design research and development and to establish and activate sound product culture design, granting KD certification. Award Driven by Educational Innovation Policies Sangmyung University has long cultivated creative talents based on its strengths in culture, arts, and design. In recent years, it has further proposed a new educational model by integrating its design capabilities with other academic disciplines. This approach goes beyond simply teaching major-specific knowledge and focuses on fostering creative thinking skills that enable students to solve real-world problems. In particular, this award reflects the achievements of the educational innovation policies implemented since President Kim Jong-hee took office. From February 2nd to 7th, President Mr. Kim Jonghee led an official delegation to Italy, strengthening academic cooperation with La Sapienza University of Rome, Link Campus University, d’Annunzio Chieti - Pescara University, and the University of Florence. This initiative goes beyond symbolic memoranda of understanding. It focuses on concrete academic collaboration in artificial intelligence-AI, green cities, cultural arts, and Korean language education. The project reflects Sangmyung’s long-term internationalization strategy and signals a shift toward building a structured, multi-layered academic network in Europe. By connecting with major academic hubs in Rome, Chieti, Pescara, and Florence, the university aims to create sustainable educational pathways for students and faculty members. The establishment of this Global Education Belt represents not only geographical expansion but also a qualitative transformation in global engagement. Building Academic Bridges Across Italy The Global Education Belt initiative is built upon a series of collaborations with four Italian universities located in different academic and regional hubs.
